Sheffield · registered charity
We teach children about nature right where it lives.
By the River Don, in the city’s woods and around its reservoirs. We run outdoor sessions for schools, a Saturday club for young birdwatchers, holiday clubs and family activities on Sheffield’s estates.
- Years 1–6
- Bird club on Saturdays
- Half-term and summer clubs

Kingfishers live on the Don — if you know where to look. We’ll show you.

What we do

Every session happens outside — by the river, in the woods, or on an estate where we put up swift boxes.

Class in the Woods
A two-hour outdoor session by the Don or in the city’s woods for a whole class.

How we work
Look closely first, then find the name
Our sessions don’t happen in a classroom. Children get hand lenses, binoculars and notebooks, and we help them notice what usually slips past: tracks in the mud, a bird calling from the reeds, life under a stone.
- Activities matched to the year group and the season
- Led by a biologist and outdoor educator, and an amateur ornithologist
- We follow a written safeguarding policy

Children and money — straight answers
We work with children and with our donors’ money. On both, we’d rather be specific than make promises.
Safeguarding
Our safeguarding policy is written down in full and in a short version for children. Everyone working with children has an enhanced DBS check.

Donations, Gift Aid, grants and holiday club fees. The bird club and family walks are free thanks to our donors.
How we spend itOur reports are public
We publish our annual report and accounts every year. As a registered charity, they’re also on the Charity Commission register.

Free on a Saturday, or handy with a camera?
We’re looking for people to help at outdoor events and at the Saturday club, plus photographers and designers who can help us tell the story of local wildlife.
