Practice areas

We act for individuals and small businesses in five areas of law. Below we describe the typical matters in each and who deals with them. If you’re not sure whether your matter falls within this, give us a call and we’ll tell you straight away.

§ 1

Family law

Matters where the priority is to put a family’s arrangements on a clear footing — including when the people involved can’t agree on their own. We negotiate, draft agreements and represent clients in the family court.

Typical matters

  • divorce and dissolution of civil partnerships
  • financial settlements and consent orders
  • child arrangements — where children live and time with each parent
  • child and spousal maintenance
  • separation and nuptial agreements

§ 2

Wills, probate and inheritance

We help executors and families deal with an estate, and act in disputes over inheritance — whether you are bringing a claim against an estate or responding to one.

Typical matters

  • applying for probate and administering an estate
  • claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975
  • defending claims brought against an estate
  • disputes between executors and beneficiaries
  • reviewing a will and the position of the beneficiaries

§ 3

Employment law

We act for both employees and employers. Employment tribunal deadlines are strict, so if you have been dismissed it is worth contacting us as soon as possible.

Typical matters

  • unfair and wrongful dismissal
  • unpaid wages, holiday pay and overtime
  • bullying, harassment and discrimination at work
  • settlement agreements
  • for employers: dismissals, contracts, staff handbooks and disputes

Matthew Jennisonpartner · English, German

§ 4

Small business

For sole traders and small companies: documents that set out how you work with customers and suppliers, and recovering money you are owed — from a letter before claim to court proceedings.

Typical matters

  • contracts with customers, suppliers and subcontractors
  • terms and conditions, including for online shops and services
  • debt recovery: letters before claim, County Court claims, enforcement
  • reviewing contracts before you sign

Led by

Matthew Jennisonpartner · English, German

§ 5

Criminal and motoring

Defence for people who are under investigation or have been charged, and support for victims of crime. If you have been asked to attend a police interview, contact us before you go.

Typical matters

  • police station and voluntary interviews
  • representation in the magistrates’ court
  • motoring offences, including speeding and driving without insurance
  • support for victims, including criminal injuries compensation claims
